Our Story

It all started in July 1998, when Jack Williams was getting his wife's car smogged. While he sat there, waiting for his smog check to be completed, he saw lots of ways he felt a smog shop could have been run better. A year and a half later he opened his first Smog 'N Go location in Elk Grove, implementing his ideas for a better smog shop.

Building from the ground up A large percentage of smog shops are built from converted garages or gas stations. Smog 'N Go locations are built from the ground up and designed to be efficient smog testing facilities. Each of our locations has multiple bays, clean floors and rest rooms, a large, comfortable waiting room, and large windows so you can watch your car as it's smogged.

Multiple bays Many smog shops have just one bay to do smog tests. Smog 'N Go locations are built with 3 bays, so we can smog more than one car at a time and get you out the door more quickly. Most cars get in and out in about 15 minutes, and it's rare to ever have to wait longer than half an hour to get your car smogged at Smog 'N Go.

Longer hours We stay open until 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, and until 5 on Saturdays. We are open longer so you don't have to take off time from work to get your car smogged.

Great service We are pretty picky about the people we hire. We do our best to staff our locations with friendly, knowledgeable staff to get you in and out quickly and as painlessly as possible. Many smog shops have the same employee taking care of customer service and doing the smog check. At Smog 'N Go, each of our locations has friendly service writers whose main job it is to take care of the customers, leaving the technicians free to take care of your car. This smooths the process, and you don't have to wait around as long.

Giving back to the community Ever since we first opened we have been giving back to the communities that have helped us grow. We've helped local schools, sponsored local youth sports teams, and contributed to local charities.

Our main charitable focus has been the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This organization grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. We've donated over $500,000 since we first opened, and we provide an opportunity for our customers to make a $2, $5, or $10 dollar donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation when they get a smog check. Customers who donate receive a magnetic Make-A-Wish star to put on their car or refrigerator. Smog 'N Go's efforts helps the Make-A-Wish foundation grant an additional 7 - 10 wishes per year.
